Test cell cabin for operational test and emissions adjustments
Engine test cells.

With the test cell, STIHL makes sure that the high quality requirements imposed on all STIHL products are met. The finished units are started up, tuned and subjected to a test run in sound-insulated test cabins.

In order to comply with increasingly strict exhaust emission standards worldwide, the company has already developed the appropriate procedures and processes in advance. STIHL is therefore fully equipped for the future.
What exactly is an operational test? Can you explain this to me? We test the basic functions of the almost complete product, for example: is the engine adjusted correctly? Do the chain brakes and accelerator work? This way, possible errors can be immediately detected and fixed. Exhaust emissions are important, not only for ecological reasons. How do you control emissions? For this purpose, we take our time and allow the saw to warm up. Exhaust emissions can only be adjusted when the engine is at operating temperature. After adjustment, only 1 to 5 % CO by volume remains in the exhaust
fumes.
How can you warrant that my saw will operate perfectly even with the highest demands? Here, we simulate actual operation - in idling and at full load. Each individual saw is optimally adjusted in order to get the smooth-running behavior typical of a STIHL engine. Should I recommend that customers first "break-in" their device - like a new car - and then have it serviced/inspected again after a period? No, our engines are already preset and able to run at full load. "Over-revving" is therefore not possible. Your customers can immediately start working with the machine.
