Guide bar.

Performance, functionality and reliability of a chainsaw does not depend alone on the engine. Engine power is only converted into cutting performance when combined with the cutting attachments, which consist of guide bar, chain and chain sprocket. The bar is especially important for this matter, because it is responsible for the precise guidance of the chain and therefore controls cutting accuracy.

STIHL produces guide bars for every requirement, from lightweight bars for all-round use and DIY applications to the solid bars for highly demanding tasks in tree-cutting, in particular for hardwood.

Changes in product design and market requirements have induced major technological and organizational changes in guide bar production. A high automation rate is now as self-evident for us as the latest production technologies, such as laser cutting, laser welding and CBN grinding.
Why do you also make your own chains and bars? In that respect, we are unique among chainsaw manufacturers. Only that way we can get the perfect cutting system that is optimally tuned for the drive system. How does STIHL ensure the quality of the bar? We use special alloyed steels and constantly monitor dimensional stability throughout the process: Is the guide bar geometrically precise? Is the groove width correct? Is the flatness right? What is the advantage of top-class cutting attachments and what do I have to look for when buying? That's an easy one: the better the cutting attachments, the better the cutting performance. Of course, the attachments must be appropriately adapted to the engine performance for the specific application. Otherwise cutting comfort will be lost. How do you avoid quantitative mistakes when putting together cutting bar packages for shipment? Fortunately, we no longer have to count our guide bars, therefore quantitative errors are practically non-existent for us. A special weighing module takes care of this task and leads to an accurate delivery of the ordered quantity.
