Piston and cylinder assembly
Final assembly.

In the final assembly department, as the name suggests, the individual components of the engine are assembled to become the finished product. STIHL operates under a continuous improvement scheme to ensure that latest findings, in respect to efficiency and ergonomic working conditions, are applied to our assembly processes.

Assembly systems have been designed with buffer between the individual stations, removing the hectic pace from the assembly line. Work is now performed with fewer interruptions and with more reliable quality. Physically burdensome and repetitive assembly tasks have been taken over by automated and screw fastening stations.

We have organized assembly work into a more employee-oriented setup, this is reflected in increased worker satisfaction.
The variety of different individual parts is impressive. Do you ship the saws also complete with bar and saw chain? No, that would not be flexible enough and not meet the requirements of our customers. Depending on the customer requirements the saws will be fitted with different guide bars and chains by our retail dealers in accordance
with local regulations.
The most important properties seem to undergo a test during assembly already. Is there a final inspection and testing station in addition to that? Yes of course. We have appointed qualified personnel at the end of the assembly line specifically for this purpose. No machine leaves the factory without final inspection and testing. That is a fundamental principle
for us.
Would it not make more sense to provide a comprehensive instruction manual in 12 languages rather than a specific manual for each country? For us the customer is king, therefore all our customers receive their instruction manual in their own language. After all, the handling is easier for the customer and also better for the environment. In the products of other companies necessary additional fixings and small parts are often missing. How come your boxes are always complete? We carry out a 100% inspection. For example, packing of additional items is monitored by a photocell. If a part is missing, a signal alerts the operator and the box will be completed.
