Flowers
Flowering period: IV-V. Very pretty, red male flowers pendent in clusters in the axils of the upper needles. Inconspicuous female flower, greenish, with reddish scaly edge, monoecious, only appear on previous year's branches at the top of the crown.

Young bark is pale grey and smooth with shallow furrows. Old bark is grey-brown or greenish-grey, with a regular chambered structure.
