Flowers
Flowering period: IV-V. Ornamental red flower, in pendent clusters in the axils of the upper needles. The inconspicuous yellowish female flower is monoecious, upright, terminal, ovate to roller-like, and made up of numerous seed scales.

Attractive purple-brown cones 14-25cm long, 7-8cm wide, with wedge-shaped seeds on triangular, notched wings. Cylindrical form, upright, with strongly protruding bracts curving outwards.

Leaves
Tough needles with rounded tip, wider round base, curving upwards, entire. 2-3.5cm long and 0.2-0.3cm wide. Needles are blue-white above, bluish-white below, in a brush-like arrangement.
