Engine assembly. We now have seen how the various individual components of a chainsaw are manufactured. Now we are at the assembly lines. The basis for the high quality of our products here are reliable production processes, especially for manual operations. For many decades we have been developing special tools and devices for this purpose, ensuring a standardized assembly process and errorfree operation.

Germany, Switzerland, Brazil and the USA. Why do you manufacture products in so many different locations? There are two main reasons. First, we are directly present in important markets. Second, we ensure greater independence from currency fluctuations. You produce for the whole world. Are specific products produced for individual countries? We produce very flexible 30 different models with roughly 10 variations each and, of course, with specific regional features. For example the handle heating is mainly produced for the Scandinavian market. On TV, we often see only handling robots in assembly plants. What is your automation grade? We make use of the advantages of both manu-
facturing technologies. For example, joining processes are manual but with automatic screwing and inspection stations in-line. That's one reason why we have such high demands
on the qualifications of our employees. Why do you produce in Germany, and not in cheaper locations? We produce close to the market in America and Europe. Germany, due to its high quality standards and the specialized know-how of the employees, will play an important role as a production location for STIHL.
