STIHL records further growth in unit sales in 2003 Marked increase in unit sales The STIHL Group again achieved a marked increase in unit sales in fiscal year 2003. Worldwide, 10 percent more chainsaws and 7 percent more power tools were sold. Growth was greatest in eastern Europe and North America. Guide bar sales climbed 9 percent and those of chains 8 percent. "This pronounced increase in unit sales was reached in spite of unfavorable weather and economic stagnation in some areas - a pleasing result for the company," said board spokesman Dr. Bertram Kandziora. The very dry weather last summer resulted in buyer restraint across much of Europe. On the other hand, unusual influences, such as hurricane Isabel in the U.S., prompted an unexpected boost in chainsaw sales.
