Introduction

The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES is an international competition series in lumber sport.  Lumber sport has its roots in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.  In the old days, woodcutting competitions were held among foresters to determine the “best” of their group at local level.   In the course of time, that “trial of strength” developed into a professional competition at a high level of athletics.

In 1985  ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co. KG launched the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES as a championship series in the USA.  The SERIES has now become established as the premier class in lumber sport.  Competitions take place at international and national level.  In Europe, the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES dates back to 2001.  National championships in a number of European countries and the European Championship are well established now.  Since 2005, the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® World Championships have pitted the world’s best lumber sport athletes against one another.
