Dust testing

You like to cut steel and stone, we like to cut out the dust.

Dust testing

Dust – always at our side
If there's so much dust that you can't see your hand in front of your face, you are most likely in the STIHL dust chamber. Dust is something we're very interested in. It's a stubborn material, can be found everywhere, even in the smallest opening, and likes to trouble mechanical and electrical devices – if it's not combatted the right way, that is. That's exactly what we do in our dust chamber. We generate an extremely airtight dust atmosphere for example by cutting stone with our cut-off machine. At the same time, we operate other tools in the same atmosphere, which suck in the dust-filled air.

Understanding dust
After a while we turn off the tools and take a closer look at the air filters and the inside of the tools. On the basis of our observations, we can draw conclusions in terms of how the air filters should be designed to prevent dust from getting into the engine effectively. Only clean, particle-free air can be used to deliver optimal engine performance. Thus, we can also learn about wear to components, cylinders and pistons. This allows us to offer improved filter service life and longer tool life spans – giving you all the time in the world to enjoy your STIHL tools.
