Correct refuelling
with tools
A number of fundamental safety instructions must be observed before refuelling your STIHL chainsaw:
- Petrol is highly inflammable. Keep well away from any naked fire, ensure that fuel is not spilled and do not smoke. Refuel the machine at least 3 metres (10 feet) away from the area in which you are working and where you intend to start the chainsaw.
- Always switch the engine off completely before refuelling; do not refuel while the engine is hot, as the machine may catch fire if petrol overflows.
- Open the filler cap carefully so that any excess pressure can be relieved slowly and fuel does not splash out of the tank.
- Always refuel in a well ventilated place.
- When refuelling, ensure that fuel is not spilled onto the ground or splashed onto your clothing. If it is spilled, clean the machine immediately and change your clothes.
Lay the chainsaw on a clean surface
The machine should preferably be refuelled on a clean, level surface. Lay the chainsaw down so that the tank openings face upwards.

Clean the tank openings
Clean the area around the tank openings with a clean cloth.

Open the tanks with a tool
Open the two tanks (fuel tank and chain oil tank) with a spanner or with the combination wrench.

Filling with fuel and lubricant
Fill the two tanks slowly and carefully. Fill the fuel mixture into the fuel tank and the chain oil into the oil tank. The transparent tanks on the machine ensure that the level is always easy to see. In addition, STIHL has developed a patented filling system for fuel and chain oil to ensure that nothing is spilled.
Note: This filling system is not available in all countries. Please contact your authorised STIHL dealer.

Close the tanks
Unit vibrations can cause an improperly tightened fuel filler cap to loosen or come off and spill quantities of fuel. In order to reduce the risk of fuel spillage and fire, tighten the fuel filler cap by hand as securely as possible. The screwdriver end of the STIHL combination wrench or other similar tool can be used as an aid in tightening slotted fuel filler caps. Check for fuel leakage while refueling and during operation. If fuel leakage is found, do not start or run the engine until the leak is fixed and any spilled fuel has been wiped away. Take care not to get fuel on your clothing. If this happens, change your clothing immediately.
