Filling up
Before filling up your STIHL brushcutter, there are some basic safety rules you should follow:
- Gasoline is highly flammable. Therefore keep a safe distance from naked flames, take care not to spill any fuel and do not smoke. Fill up at least 3 metres away from the working area where you will start the brushcutter.
- Always switch off the engine completely before filling up with fuel. Do not fill the machine if the engine is still hot, as any spilled fuel could be a fire hazard.
- Open the fuel filler cap carefully, to allow any pressure that may have built up to be released slowly so that fuel does not spray out of the tank.
- Always fill up only in well ventilated places.
- When filling up, take care not to spill any fuel on the ground or on your clothing. If a spill does happen, immediately clean the brushcutter and change your clothes.
Step 1 of 5: Lay your brushcutter on a clean surface
Always choose a clean, level surface when filling your brushcutter. Lay your brushcutter down on this surface with the tank opening facing upwards.

Step 2 of 5: Clean the tank opening
Clean the area around the tank opening with a clean cloth.

Step 3 of 5: Open the fuel tank
Lift the fuel filler cap flap, then turn the fuel filler cap counter-clockwise as far as it will go. Then remove the cap.

Step 4 of 5: Filling up
Pour the fuel mix into the tank slowly and carefully, taking care not to spill any. The clear fuel tank on the machine helps you keep an eye on the fuel level. And to avoid any spills, STIHL offers the patented fuel filling system.

Step 5 of 5: Close the tank
Replace the fuel filler cap and flap correctly in position, turn it as far as it will go and lower the flap. This reduces the risk of vibration from the engine loosening the fuel filler cap, allowing fuel to escape. Be sure to check for leaks. Do not start the engine if there is a fuel leak (fire hazard and danger to life!).

One final tip:
Safe operation of your brushcutter is essential, including when mowing. Please read the important safety instructions in your instruction manual carefully.
