Bhutan Pine, Blue Pine (Pinus wallichiana)

Majestic, elegant large tree growing to 50m. The bark is strikingly thin with a fine pattern of cracks and fissures on mature trees. Very large female cones up to 10cm wide. The tear of resin adheres to the young cones.

Flowering period V-VI , red male flowers, reddish-yellow female flower. Male flowers accumulate in ears at the bases of long young shoots. Female flowers are 2cm long, cone-like.

Resinous, cylindrical cones, solitary or in groups of 2-3. Long-stalked, upright when young, pendent in the second year. Up to 25cm long. Wedge-shaped scales.
