Demands
Only hardy in mild locations; intolerant of soil compaction; will not tolerate persistently high groundwater levels; frost-hardy; not fume-hardy.
Growth
1.5 - 2.0m high, 1.5-2m in diameter
Leaves
Ovate to lance-like leaves, alternate, in two rows, with long pointed tip, double serrated edge and rounded base. Fresh green above, pale green below. 3-6cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, leaf stem 0.5-1cm long. Yellow autumn colouring.
Flowers
Flowering period IV-VI. Golden yellow dish-like blossoms with 5 petals each, approx. 3cm wide, of particular ornamental value. Blossoms are solitary or in small clusters, usually with leafy short terminal shoots.
Fruits
Glossy black-brown stone fruit, 0.4-0.5cm in diameter. Round to ovate shape, rarely fruiting, with one seed.
Bark
Yellow-green or green bark, smooth and very attractive. Branches are green or pale green, with furrowed surface, round cross-section, sometimes also slightly edged.
Roots
Surface-rooting, suckering.
